1998 PLAYA PASS

1998 PLAYA PASS, Pendant by Michael Heneghan.
This is the very first of Michael’s series which he named “Playa Pass”. His second pass he renamed the series to “UNofficial NOaccess PLAYA PASS”.

Michael writes, “Having never been before, I had no reference to BURNING MAN. I found this image in the LA Reader and set it on fire. My originals were laminated with a blank white back, which I found to be boring, so I made a sticker for the back saying BURNING MAN ‘98 with lines for the recipient to sign and add information.”

Origin: Having learned about BURNING MAN in late Summer ‘97 and not being able to pull it together in time, I had a whole year to plan for Burning Man 1998. One idea I had was to use the laminator at my job to make for myself a Backstage Pass style tag. A co-worker who understood the Burner spirit, suggested that instead of just one I should make a bunch and give them out, So I made 50 of them and found out at Burning Man that these laminates were an immediate hit.
