Burn Perimeter Support, 2023 Patch 2.
The burning of large-scale artworks at Burning Man requires extensive planning, coordination, and safety preparation. An essential component of these operations is Burn Perimeter Support, a team of trained volunteers responsible for maintaining a secure perimeter around artworks during their ceremonial burns. Their duties include managing spectator boundaries, preventing unauthorized entry into the designated burn area, and protecting both participants and spectators from potential hazards.
Upon successful completion of Burn Perimeter Support Training, volunteers are issued a identification button, signifying their training and authorization to serve on a burn perimeter crew. The button is required to be worn while performing perimeter duties, providing a visible means of identifying authorized personnel.
Beyond its functional purpose, the button represents the volunteer commitment, shared responsibility, and safety traditions that have become integral to Burning Man’s large-scale art burns.
