The Ornithopter Man, 2016 Pendant by Jim (Costume Jim) Glaser.
This pendant was inspired by the 2016 theme da Vinci’s Workshop.
An ornithopter (from Greek ornis, ornith – ‘bird’ and pteron ‘wing’) is a flying machine designed to emulate birds by generating lift through the flapping motion of its wings. Leonardo da Vinci’s ornithopter (c. 1485–1505) was a proposed human-powered flying machine designed to mimic bird and bat flight by flapping 33-foot, bat-like wings. Inspired by his study of nature, the machine featured a pilot lying prone, using foot pedals and hand levers to operate a pulley-and-crank system to generate flight
