My usual playground is in the digital space. I loved the open playa that was the early web; it was fortunately one of my first art avenues, and the computer one of my first creative tools. This childhood hobby turned into a degree in Graphic Design and Multimedia Studies, then into a profession.
I’ve always known that creative problem-solving is what gets me into my flow state. Even so, attending my first Burn in 2015 altered the direction of my life in many positive ways, especially in terms of my art. I remember first coming across the highly considered, intricate, and at times hilarious objects that make up Burning Man swag and jewelry, and being so in awe… To be able to capture and convey so much about a sub-culture in such compact sizes! Not many things last through the Burn or can be physically taken home with you—after all, in some ways, that is the point. But these pieces, this type of art, can and do move off-playa, inspiring others throughout the years. The gifts I’ve received are treasured and serve as reminders of how far I’ve come personally. I want and hope to create gifts like that for others.
The Burn has led me to explore forms of expression I would have never considered before. Past and current artistic outlets include print (small and large scale), vinyl, ceramics, jewelry fabrication, metal casting, leather working, woodworking, and laser cutting/etching.
